Jakarta topped a list of the most polluted cities in the world for two consecutive days this week, as shared by Greenpeace Indonesia's Twitter account, with Denpasar, Bali, also breaking into the top 10.

Citing data from Air Visual, which measures air quality in cities around the world, Greenpeace Indonesia tweeted on Thursday that Jakarta remained the number one most polluted city, after also topping the list the previous day.

"This morning, Jakarta is still the number one most-polluted [city] in the world. Don't forget to use a face mask type N95 to prevent the adverse effects of PM2.5 pollutants [on] your lungs," the tweet said, along with a screenshot of the list made by Air Visual.

Jakarta took the number one spot with an Air Quality Index (AQI) level of 184, one point up from the previous day.

Denpasar, meanwhile, placed 10th on the list, with an AQI level of 104.Air Visual, an AQI level forecasting and real-time tracking app, ranks the air quality of cities around the world in a list that is updated daily.

The index measures up to six main pollutants, including PM2.5, PM10, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide and ground level ozone. It also calculates the health risks (or AQI number) for each pollutant at any given time. The overall AQI number at a given moment is dictated by the "riskiest" pollutant, with the highest AQI number.

In accordance with the measurement, any value larger than 300 is considered to be hazardous, while an AQI value of 0-50 represents good air quality.
