Utama Spice is a Balinese based company with its roots deeply entrenched in Ancient Balinese Herbal Medicine.

Utama Spice was started by Melanie Templer and DayuSuci after they realized that the ancient Balinese medicinal herbal knowledge that has proven to provide extremely powerful and effective medicines for the Balinese over the past hundreds of years was being pushed aside to make room for modern day medicines. They also noticed that not only was this herbal knowledge being lost but the herbs themselves were being lost as they were being replaced by cash crops further perpetuating the cycle.

With their focus on "giving people back their birth right" as Melanie and Dayu put it, and to save as much of this knowledge as possible while giving the rest of the world a chance to experience the magic of plants. An ancient past time that has already been lost in so many other parts of the world, Melanie and Dayu set off to develop the best all natural products nature could provide. To do this Melanie and Dayu make sure that every ingredient that goes into their recipes is of the highest of quality and maintain all of their healing properties.

Utama Spice does not use binders, preservatives, or synthetics in our products and all of our essential oils that we use to create our unique aromas are unadulterated and the finest available to us.

By maintaining these levels of quality and purity the end result is a product so fresh and natural you'll think its food, and why shouldn't you? With your skin being your biggest organ it only makes sense to only put things on it that you would put in you. We take this notion of natural products that heal to such an extreme that our production license allows us to produce traditional medicines along with cosmetics.

We started as a micro family affair and have
now grown to a small limited company employing more then 20 people. We adhere to the famous Balinese cultural concept of TRI HITA KARANA, which commits us to respecting and working harmoniously with humanity, nature and the Divine. As a business, we have found a balance between generating an income from the herbs without damaging the environment in which they grow. We have done extensive research to support the local natural resource base and to enhance local farming skills in such areas as organic farming, bee farming and seaweed farming, and it is these farming communities that produce the raw materials for our company's products.
