"Cloned food. GMOs and rBGH. Oh my! Interesting how swiftly these food technologies were rushed to market, when organic fought for 13 years to become federal law. Eleven years ago, genetically modified food was not part of our food supply; today an astounding 30 percent of our cropland is planted in GMOs. Organic is the only de facto seal of reassurance against these and other modern, lab-produced additions to our food supply, and the only food term with built in inspections and federal regulatory teeth." www.organic.org

The evidence is clear: sustainable farmers prove we all can enjoy healthy food - and we each have power to make this happen. We can redirect our own food dollars and the billions in public money now going into the pockets of Big Ag. We can stand up and speak out for sustainable farmers here and around the world.

Altered Genes, Twisted Truth: How the Venture to Genetically Engineer Our Food Has Subverted Science, Corrupted Government, and Systematically Deceived the Public (Part One)

This book tells the fascinating and frequently astounding story of the biggest scientific fraud in history, and how it has maintained its force in the face of overwhelming contrary evidence. It describes how the massive enterprise to restructure the genetic core of the world's food supply has routinely violated the standards of science and how for more than three decades, hundreds of eminent biologists and scores of esteemed institutions have systematically contorted the truth in order to conceal the unique risks of its products - and get them onto our dinner plates.

Fungicides, chemical dyes, fixers, stain resistors and fire retardants make up the toxic cocktail present in the clothes we buy. These unnatural additives to the textiles are poisonous to both us and to the environment; there is little information on the label to warn us about the effects of exposure.

According to the European Commission, a Social Business "Seeks to serve the community's interest (social, societal, environmental objectives) rather than profit maximisation. They often employ society's most fragile members (socially excluded persons). They thus contribute to social cohesion, employment and the reduction of inequalities".
In Yunus words, it is a "Business that solves problems rather than make people money", and he calls it Social, "because the profit-making business is about me. It's me-centered. Social business is nothing about me. It's all about others".

What the USDA Doesn't Want You to Know About Antibiotics and Factory Farms
Here is a document the USDA doesn't want you to see. It's what the agency calls a "technical review"-nothing more than a USDA-contracted researcher's simple, blunt summary of recent academic findings on the growing problem of antibiotic-resistant infections and their link with factory animal farms. The topic is a serious one. A single antibiotic-resistant pathogen, MRSA-just one of many now circulating among Americans-now claims more lives each year than AIDS.

Governments must work towards a major shift towards small-scale farming if endemic food crises are to be overcome and production boosted to support the global population, the United Nations said on Tuesday.
In its annual World Economic and Social Survey, it said a transformation from large-scale and intensive systems of agriculture was vital if growing environmental and land degradation was to be avoided.

In April 2009, it became illegal to sell or apply pesticides for cosmetic lawncare in Ontario, Canada. It seems like a no-brainer risk versus benefits analysis: the benefit is ...hmmm, just cosmetic...while the risks are real, documented, and pervasive. But somehow the allure of a green, weed-free lawn keeps conquering rationality. A year later, does the preliminary data on the effectiveness of Ontario's cosmetic pesticide ban prove it is a good idea?
